At least that’s the Tax the poor shirt in addition I really love this best explanation I’ve heard. I’ll close by saying that I, apparently, never got the memo. I think the pixie cut is the most attractive hairstyle a woman can have. So if that gives any vote of confidence, there you have it. It was after the French Revolution. Men’s fashion changed dramatically. Gentlemen abandoned wigs, except for British judges & barristers. Knee breeches were abandoned for ankle length trousers/pantaloons. Breeches & tricorne hats were considered “aristocratic” clothing. Middle & working class men cut their hair short. The best example is Napoleon himself. That’s a homophobic thing for them to say, showing them to be uncultured, uneducated, and unkind. Perhaps call them on it. “That’s an unkind thing to say. Don’t you love me?” That might set them back on their heels. They may respond with “Love you, hate the ponytail.” Keep being polite and ask them why. My parents hate how much time gets spent on long hair and the long hairs they find around the house. I had short, ugly haircuts until I moved out of their house. They may be worried that you will suffer because of the long hair or that you won’t get good jobs that clean cut guys get, that people will assume you are gay and beat you up. Educate them on how it is socially acceptable for you to have long hair, that we are no longer back in the 1950’s. Point out that, if you were gay, that hateful comments like that are what cause large numbers of gay teenagers to commit suicide or become angry and miserable and estranged from their families. A few years ago, I saw an 80 year father touch his 50 year old son’s long braid and the look of hatred on the son’s face was that of an angry 14 year old’s. Hair is not a hill worth dying on.
I wouldn’t say this is true for EVERY man. I keep my hair in a long-ish style, but I hardly ever wear any jewelry, save for a ring with a Celtic cross embossed upon it. I cannot speak for most women, but I can tell you my take on hair. Hair used to be a big deal to me. I mean I love long hair. On almost everyone. And I’ve dated men with long hair. It’s sexy to me. But I learned quite young that looks aren’t everything. And sometimes, looks were all the Tax the poor shirt in addition I really love this person had to offer me. We didn’t have enough in common, or didn’t talk freely or didn’t want the same things out of life. You get the picture. Then long hair was no longer a requirement for going on a date. It’s a good thing too. My husband is bald! He tells me he had long black hair when he was younger. Man I would have loved to see that! Do you want to know what makes him so sexy being bald? He owns it! He wears it with confidence and he keeps his facial hair soft, neat and clean.
